At its September meeting on Wednesday and Thursday, the Colorado State Board of Education remanded an application for a charter school back to the Montrose County School District with specific instructions to reconsider its previous decision.

Educators are invited to the EE Conference on Sept. 17-18

News Release - CDE to host the 2025 Elevating Excellence Conference on Sept. 17-18
The Colorado Department of Education is inviting teachers from all content areas and grade levels to its Elevating Excellence Conference on Wednesday, Sept. 17 and Thursday, Sept. 18, at the Adams County Government Building in Brighton. This free conference will include more than 40 sessions designed to focus on improving student outcomes through effective and engaging instructional practice.

News Release - Colorado Department of Education releases preliminary school and district frameworks
The Colorado Department of Education today released preliminary 2025 school and district performance frameworks based on 2024-25 data that show trends largely in line with last year’s results. The frameworks are used to accredit school districts and assign school ratings by measures such as graduation rates, academic achievement and growth.

News Release - CDE announces two of eight finalists for 2026 Colorado Teacher of the Year
Officials from CDE and representatives from schools and school districts today surprised two teachers in their classrooms with news that they are among the eight finalists in the running to be Colorado’s 2026 Teacher of the Year. The finalists are Julie Naski Roman from Carson Elementary School in Denver Public Schools and Kendall Van Valkenburg from Red Canyon High School in Eagle County School District.

News Release -- Colorado 2024-2025 student attendance and chronic absenteeism remain largely unchanged from 2023-2024
The Colorado Department of Education today released 2024-25 data on student attendance and chronic absenteeism, with statewide averages showing slight declines in daily attendance (-0.1%) and slight increases in chronic absenteeism (+0.7%).

During its August meeting, the Colorado State Board of Education heard a presentation about the results from the spring 2025 assessments, which showed steady improvement for many student groups but also highlighted the persistent and longstanding achievement gaps that remain between groups of students.

The Colorado Department of Education today released growth data and disaggregated student group achievement results from the Colorado Measures of Academic Success (CMAS), PSAT, and SAT assessments administered to Colorado public school students in grades three through 11 in spring 2025.
